WE WERE WONDERING ...
Q. Who are you and why did you start Table for Two?
A. I am Elspeth, Kundalini Yoga instructor, journalist, musician, film maker and founder, chef and bottle washer at Table for Two. One of my greatest joys in life is creating special multidimensional experiences for people—uplifting, unique and memorable. Eating and drinking are very social pastimes. People love to go out and dine. When I was living a raw food lifestyle I discovered the joy of creative and artistic food preparation. I would spend hours in the kitchen inventing dishes, arranging them artistically and taking photos of them (prior to consumption). I thought—why not combine my love of creating with peoples' love of dining out and toss in some extra special "interactivities" to make the experience one like no other? I prepare food intuitively and creatively, experimenting with unusual combinations. The result is healthy, delicious to eat/drink and fulfilling. I also like the idea of two people, whoever they are, having somewhere different to go, something unique to do, as they get to know each other more deeply, in unexpected new ways. From this foundation Table for Two was born (in February 2013).
Q. How many people can & will Table for Two accommodate for the experience?
A. Two. That's why I named it 'Table for Two Made for You'.
Q. What do you mean when you say the experience is "more than" dinner?
A. Table for Two is not just about eating—in the way that one would normally think of 'going for dinner'. Food (vegetarian/vegan) is of course involved (multiple courses) . . . but the interspersed activities and the personalised experience created for you and your loved one take it beyond just the palate.
Q. How can we book?
A. Please book at least 5 days in advance—or more, even better. Some people book weeks or months in advance. Bookings are not accepted by phone. Please use the booking form featured on the last tab on this website, filling it out as completely as possible. The more information you give, the more I understand about the essence of your connection and the more I have to work with in creation of your night.
Q. How long do you spend preparing a Table for Two?
A. Because I create a personalised experience for each couple, it can take days to conceptualize, design the elements and bring it all together. This is why I request booking at least 5 days in advance.
Q. The dining experience begins at 7:00 p.m. What if we reach late?
A. If you are running late due to unavoidable circumstances, a simple phone call to let me know your ETA will be appreciated.
Q. Is Table for Two for romantic couples only?
A. Your Table for Two is created for you and someone special, whoever that may be ... spouse, family member, girlfriend, boyfriend, old friend, new friend, best friend, new love interest ... or anyone else with whom you'd like to share a made-just-for-you-two experience.
Q. What can we expect?
A. Table for Two is full of surprises—from beginning to end. Expect nothing, enjoy everything.
Q. Where is Table for Two located?
A. Table for Two once operated from a fixed seaside location (home), but currently uses selected venues (availability permitting). Directions are given only to patrons with confirmed bookings.
Q. Does Table for Two happen indoors or outdoors?
A. To date, TFT has mainly been an open air experience. In the event of rain, guests are happy to continue enjoying their night indoors. Although one couple from the UK once chose to stay dining outdoors as the rain fell—and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thankfully, however, Table for Two has thus far been blessed with mostly clear night skies.
Q. Is there a menu we can look at to choose our meal?
A. There is no set menu. Part of the surprise element of Table for Two is that you only know what's 'on the menu' when each course is placed before you.
Q. What if we have allergies or don't like certain foods?
A. When you fill out the booking form, you will be asked if there are any foods to which you or your companion are allergic and if there is any food you particularly don't like. These are not used in creation of the meal.
Q. Do you specifically use local (T & T) ingredients?
A. As far as possible, fresh local ingredients are used ... but international ingredients are also included as desired or necessary.
Q. Is smoking permitted at Table for Two?
A. Table for Two is a no-smoking zone. Give your lungs the treat of inhaling fresh Tobago oxygen.
Q. What if we are not vegetarians? Will you cook meat for us?
A. If even just for one night, take your taste buds on an adventure. Let them discover that life can also be exciting and delicious without meat. Many die-hard meat eaters have come to TFT and by the end of the night have requested vegetarian recipes.
Q. Can Table for Two be found elsewhere online?
A. Yes. You are invited to "like" TFT on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/tablefortwomadeforyou). You can also read reviews on Tripadvisor—and are welcome to write your own if you inspired to do so after your visit.
